AsiaEurope partners GAMTEL FC finished the season on a high by defeating Gambia Football Association (GFA) Division One league champions Brikama United 2-0 at the Serrekunda East Mini-Stadium.
Goals from Modou Njie Sarr (55) and Assan Ceesay (75) sealed a hard fought victory.
The win left GAMTEL in a respectable 4th position on 33 points some 10 points behind the champions Brikama.
Head coach Mustapha Manneh reflected with mixed feelings on the campaign “Unfortunately we were not consistent enough in the league particularly early in the season due to our commitments WAFU (West African Football Union) Cup competition”. However with optimism he added “We are proud of our advancement in the WAFU Cup and feel confident of reaching at least the later stages”.
GAMTEL became the first Gambian Football Club to advance to the second round of the WAFU Cup following their impressive win over the experienced Nyarry Tally of Senegal. GAMTEL qualified for the WAFU Cup following their FA Cup success last season, and will start their defence of the title next week.
